Kuchai Lama is a residential suburb in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is located between the suburbs of Kepong and Batu Caves. The area is accessible by road from Jalan Kuchai Lama interchange, which links to the main Klang Valley highway, the Federal Highway.

The area is known for its many outdoor recreational activities such as cycling and running on the Kepong-Batu Caves Road and jungle trekking in Bukit Kiara.

The area’s name literally means “nine villages” in Malay, with each of the nine villages having a distinct personality:

Kuchai Lama Village (KLV) – The first-ever township concept in Malaysia by Yayasan Selangor Damansara (YSD). It was launched on 15 March 1993. KLV has 2 sub-villages named Seri Alam and Sungai Nibong that were launched later than KLV. KLV hosts a wide range of facilities including shops, restaurants, hotels and offices.

Kuchai Lama is a small township located in the southern part of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is part of Sepang District. The township was developed by Sime UEP Properties Berhad and was launched on 21 December 2006. The development features two commercial centres, namely Kuchai Village Mall and Kuchai Business Park, as well as a residential area consisting of low-rise condominiums and detached houses (purchased by foreigners). The township is accessible via the PLUS Expressway Southern Route via Exit 44 Bukit Raja or Exit 45 Kajang Interchange.

Kuchai Lama is also home to Sepang International Circuit, the only Formula One circuit in Southeast Asia which was built in 1999 to host the Malaysian Grand Prix.[1]

Kuchai Lama was developed by Selangor Properties Berhad in 1982 as part of a masterplan for the whole township of Bukit Sepang. Kuchai Lama was initially planned to be an exclusive residential area for the rich and famous but since then its popularity has spread beyond this sector.

The name Kuchai Lama means “old Kuchai” and it was derived from a nearby village of the same name which dates back to 1868 during the Klang War between Selangor and Perak. The village was destroyed; however, two landmarks still exist today: Kampung Sungai Kandis (Kampung Sungai Kandis) and Kampung Sungai Buloh (Kampung Sungai Buloh).

The area’s most prominent landmark is arguably The Curve, an upscale shopping mall owned by MUI Group which opened its doors in October 2003. It features a host of international brands such as Prada, Jimmy Choo, Gucci and Louis Vuitton among others.
